SunPine - first in the world with biodiesel from crude tall oil (CTO)
Tall Oil Diesel - a forest based fuel soon available
Swedish SunPine is aiming to be the first company worldwide producing biodiesel from tall oil. At the plant site of SunPine, in Piteå harbor in northern Sweden, the building activity is intense. In the spring of 2010 the plant will be ready and the first tall oil diesel produced. At the Preem refinery on the Swedish west coast the tall oil diesel will then be upgraded to a high quality green diesel.

Domsjö Fabriker to build a gasification plant with Chemrec technology 
Chemrec gasification technology will be implemented in an industrial-scale demonstration plant at Domsjö Fabriker, an innovative Swedish company which prefers to describe itself as a biorefinery rather than a pulp mill. Green fuels, DME and methanol, fit well into the company's motto "We make more from the tree" adding a fourth line of business to the present three; specialty cellulose, ethanol and lignosulfonate.

Swedish King broke BioDME ground
 
On September 18 His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf broke ground for the BioDME plant that will be built by Chemrec in Piteå. “I congratulate you all to a successful cooperation,” the King said in his speech. “We are today moving from theory to reality in this important project, presenting to the world the fuels of the future to combat the environmental challenges that the world is faced with.”

Industry Analysis: On the road to recovery
The sharp drop in pulp demand and prices during the last quarter of 2008 and first of 2009 has been followed by strengthened demand and increasing prices. Since March 2009 the rate of price recovery has been steadily increasing and by mid-November prices are approaching $800 per ton.
